As a painter with an artist’s studio in West Cork, I’m inspired by the land and seascapes around Gallan Mor.
As an artist, there can be no better place to live than Ireland’s Wild Atlantic coastline.
Home to a thriving art community, this part of the world is also a rich source of inspiration.
The land and seascapes around me here on the Sheep’s Head peninsula, and the garden at Gallan Mor, offer an endless supply of subject matter, and West Cork’s changing light gives me fresh perspectives each day.
I dabbled in art for many years, starting at the age of 11 when I saw a copy of the Book of Kells in my local library and taught myself to do Calligraphy. Later, I painted in watercolours and also learned to make stained glass panels. However, it was only when I came to Ireland and embraced our new-found freedoms here, enjoying more time and the natural world, that I discovered the joys of buttery oil paints.
I started painting again in 2017, having found the perfect medium for me. Since then, I have exhibited in galleries in West Cork while my paintings have travelled into collections around the world. Sometimes, our guests are so taken with the paintings they see on the walls in our boutique B&B that they buy paintings to take home with them!

Our forthcoming Ceramics Collection
Spring 2022 will see the launch of the new pottery collection we have created here at Gallan Mor, so there’ll soon be another way to bring a little bit of the experience we offer into your everyday life when the summer’s over.
